Karay Martin

About the Exhibit

As an emerging feminist artist, Karay makes art as celebration as well as defiance. She intends to unapologetically and unabashedly speak aloud, gently and not-so-gently shouting out those things in life that aren’t easily spoken, by using colors, visions, and the media of installation and collage. While she create pieces that are private and intimate in nature, uttering “the personal I” throughout her works, she wished to speak with and listen to “the universal and eternal we.” In other words, although she hopes to speak up and have her voice heard, she is more interested in listening to those who have yet to find their voices. While her intent, without question, is political, it is also personal and therapeutic, and she is most interested in exploring the questions of how we came to be where we are, as individuals, and where we’ve been, and where we’ll go, collectively.
