Story, Not Plot

Ages 18+

Saturday November 24, 11:30am – 2:00pm

Plots are fine for spy novels. But if you really want to jump start your writing, tell a story. Plots focus on things. Stories are about people-in other words, characters. Discover helpful ways to generate characters that live and breathe. Once they take on a life of their own, they are your co-writers in your storytelling journey.

This 2 and a half hour workshop will explore easy ways to develop characters via dialogue and monologue exercises, joyful and supportive improv games, and easy methods that put an end to writer’s block.

From the comedy sketch to the full length play, the YouTube video to the screenplay, the short story to the novel, characters are the heart of every story. This is a class that focuses on freeing up your ability to get to the heart of your human creations-with a heavy emphasis on fun.

Bring a pen, a notebook and sense of play. Be prepared to work, learn and laugh. Class presented in partnership with City Fusion.
