"We were driven to create a wailing wall that builds intimate and homely detritus from a world destroyed into a wrenching cry of grief. This emotional endeavor quickly grew into a sculptural and historical work allowing the people of New Orleans to tell their own story about what they value and why."

Jana Napoli

"My father surprised me with that cedar chest for my trousseau. This drawer is where I kept my love letters from my husband."
Honorine, Lakeview, LA
Over one million visitors have experienced the power of Floodwall in New York, Baton Rouge and Austin, Texas.

Now, in its Midwest debut at CCAC and commemorating the third anniversary of the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, this massive multimedia exhibit will be open to the public from August 28th through September 14th, as a testament to the resilience and power of the human spirit and of art's power to create healing and renewal.

Created by internationally celebrated artist, Jana Napoli, Floodwall is a momentous sculptural installation of more than 350 household drawers salvaged from discarded furniture in neighborhoods ravaged by Katrina and the floods that followed. Floodwall restores to us a part of what the levees of New Orleans shattered, and stands witness not only to the magnitude of devastation wrought, but equally to the transformative power imbued even in the detritus of daily life.

This nationally-acclaimed exhibit premiered in January 2007 in New York City at the World Financial Center Liberty Street Bridge receiving critical praise in the New York Times, The Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal. Floodwall has also been displayed at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge from July to September 2007 and the Blanton museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin from February to May 2008.

Floodwall will be installed in the main lobby of the historic 1906 Clifton School, currently being redeveloped as CCAC.

Please join us for this incredibly moving installation and CCAC's debut exhibition.
